Learning in the Library

This week seven classes visited the library for a Big6 lesson.  Mrs. Abell, Miss Mallon, Mrs. Sturtevant, and Miss Perrin’s students all explored Stage 2 of the Big6, Information Seeking Strategies, with the topic of pandas.  The first graders sorted information and story books before learning about pandas through an informational text and PebbleGo’s Animal database.  Miss Mallon and Mrs. Sturtevant’s second graders learned about pandas through the Heinemann First Encyclopedia.  Miss Perrin’s third graders learned how to use Destiny Quest, the library’s online catalog, to find information books about pandas.  Mrs. Gallagher’s fourth graders learned about the resources available in the library about Maine and what the online encyclopedia, Britannica School Edition, has about our state. Mrs. David’s fifth graders used Destiny Quest’s Web Path Express tool to search for informational websites about hominids, a topic they will be learning about in the new year.  Miss Spinney’s sixth graders also used Web Path Express, but they explored websites with information about the human digestive system.
