Noting Acadia National Park

on December 14, 2013

Mrs. Paradis’ fourth graders are learning about Maine.  They visited the library this week to learn how to take notes when researching a topic.  Mrs. Miliano introduced the “trash and treasure” method of note-taking in which the unnecessary words in a sentence are “trashed” or ignored and the keywords or “treasure” words are recorded.  The class read information from two sources about Maine’s Acadia National Park.  Sentence by sentence the students identified the important words that answered their three research questions and disregarded the rest.
