Testing closes library

NECAP testing will be taking places in grades 3-6 every morning from 9:00 to 11:00 for the next three weeks (October 1-22, 2012).  The library will be closed during that time as it is used as a testing site for those students needing extra time and/or a small group setting.  Due to testing, several classes that usually visit the library before 11:00 AM are temporarily re-scheduled.  Here is the list of the changes:

  • Mrs. Carlisle’s kindergartners will have class on Friday.
  • Miss Stevens’ kindergartners will have class on Thursday.
  • Mrs. Dupere’s kindergartners will have class on Tuesday.
  • Mrs. Paradis’ fourth graders will have their book exchange on Tuesday.
  • Mrs. Ball’s second graders will have their book exchange on Wednesday.
  • Mrs. David’s fifth graders will have their book exchange on Friday.
  • Mrs. Sullivan’s second graders will have their book exchange on Friday.

Mrs. McCall’s class visits library

Last week Mrs. McCall’s class visited the library for the first time this school year.  The class is divided into two groups.  One group has storytime on Tuesday while the other group has its on Wednesday.  Monkeys was the theme of their storytime.  Mrs. Miliano started reciting the story “Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed” with props and the class quickly joined. This was followed by a reading of Five Little Monkeys Reading In Bed  by Eileen Christelow.

Don’t monkey around with library books!

Mrs. Margoles’ class had their second orientation lesson last week.  They reviewed book care through the story The Library Monkeys by Pat Miller.  Then they watched a video about book care that features a monkey (stuffed animal) in our school library!

Geography quiz

Last week’s competition was a geography quiz.  Students were asked to label four identified states on a map of our country.  Every paper with the states Maine, Ohio, Iowa, and Utah correctly labeled was entered in a drawing for a stuffed animal.  The lucky winner is fourth grader Jordan.

First contest of the year

Last week, the library held its first weekly contest of the 2012-2013 school year.  It was an estimation contest.  A large container was filled with 361 marker caps.  Students were invited to estimate the total number of caps in the container.  No one guessed the exact amount, but fourth grader Nevaeh’s estimate of 350 caps was the closest.  She won a set of new markers.
