Wide-mouth frog

Did you know that a wide-mouth frog lives in Number One Pond right here in Sanford?  Just ask a kindergartner to tell you the story of his adventures!  Over the past few weeks, the children have listened to several stories about frogs and learned a frog song.  They have also made frog puppets.  During their latest library visit, the children listened to the hilarious book Frog and Fly:  Six Slurpy Stories by Jeff Mack.  Then they used their puppets to act out the song and to re-tell the story of the wide-mouth frog.  What fun!

Down on the farm

In their classroom, Mrs. McCall’s students have been learning about farm animals. The theme of their weekly storytime was also barnyard animals.  During their visit, the children sang a song that required them to make animal noises, did a rhyming activity with animal names, and listened to The Very Busy Spider by Eric Carle. Afterwards, the children explored the farm animals that were recently added to the PebbleGo animal database.

Last estimation contest

Last week’s contest was an estimation contest.  A large jug was filled with 9,844 pull tabs for the Ronald McDonald House in Portland.  No one guessed the exact amount, but Mrs. Shepard’s estimate of 9,756 tabs was the closest.  There is also a winner from every grade: Leah from kindergarten; Bradlee, Elysia, Kaylee, and Rose from first grade; Flavia from second grade, Colby from third grade, Elijah from fourth grade, Buddy from fifth grade, and Amy from sixth grade.

Kudos for kiddos!

Two classes earned recognition this week for returning library books.  Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Sylvestre’s kindergartners filled another chart with 100 stickers.  Mrs. Ball’s second graders earned over 1,000 points on their chart.  Both classes received small prizes for their accomplishments.  Congratulations, students!  Please continue to be responsible library users.
